Check the Register Event at PorterShed for National Check the Register Day

Galway, Ireland — April 2024 — In celebration of National Check the Register Day, PorterShed is hosting a Check the Register event on Wednesday May 8, 2024, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at A Dó, 15 Market St, Galway (The old Connacht Tribune office). This open house event aims to encourage the public to verify their registration status, file paperwork for absentee voting, or update their constituency information.

As an essential component of democratic participation, voting is a privilege that should be accessible to all eligible citizens. Mary Rodgers, CEO of PorterShed, emphasized the importance of voter registration, stating, "Voting is a privilege, and the team at PorterShed want to ensure as many people as possible understand their voting eligibility and are registered to vote in both upcoming local and European elections." Rodgers noted the success of a similar event held in 2019, which resulted in over 40 new voter registrations.

At the Check the Register event, attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Verify their registration status on-site.

  • Receive assistance with filing paperwork for absentee voting.

  • Update their constituency information if necessary.

  • Obtain information on voter eligibility criteria.

To facilitate the registration process, attendees are requested to bring identification. The event is open to all members of the public, regardless of political affiliation.
